NOTICE OF PROPOSED CHANGES THE ALASKA EXEMPTIONS ACT IN THE REGULATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR & WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BRIEF DESCRIPTION The Department of Labor & Workforce Development proposes to amend its regulations to increase certain exemption amounts under the Alaska Exemptions Act (AS 09.38). Summary of proposed changes: The Department of Labor & Workforce Development proposes to adopt regulation changes in Title 8 of the Alaska Administrative Code dealing with the Alaska Exemption Act, including the following: (1) 8 AAC 95.030 is proposed to be changed as required by AS 09.38.115 to increase the dollar amounts of the following exemptions under the Alaska Exemption Act (AS 09.38) in response to changes in the Consumer Price Index: a. the homestead exemption under AS 09.38.010(a) and AS 09.38.010(b), as implemented by 8 AAC 95.030(a); b. the aggregate personal property exemption under AS 09.38.020(a), as implemented by 8 AAC 95.030(b)(1); c. the exemption for jewelry under AS 09.38.020(b), as implemented by 8 AAC 95.030(b)(2); d. the exemption for implements, professional books, and tools of the trade under AS 09.38.020(c), as implemented by 8 AAC 95.030(b)(3); e. the exemption for pets under AS 09.38.020(d), as implemented by 8 AAC 95.030(b)(4); f. the exemption for a motor vehicle under AS 09.30.020(e), as implemented by 8 AAC 95.030(b)(5); g. the exemption for full value limitation for a motor vehicle set out in AS 09.30.020(e), as implemented by 8 AAC 95.030(b)(6); h. the exemption for accrued dividends and loan values on life insurance and annuity contracts under AS 09.38.025(a), as implemented by 8 AAC 95.030(c); i. the exemptions for weekly net earnings under AS 09.38.030(a), as implemented by 8 AAC 95.030(d)(1); j. the exemption for cash and other liquid assets under AS 09.38.030(b), as implemented by 8 AAC 95.030(d)(2); k. the exemption for weekly disposable earnings set out in AS 09.38.050(b), as implemented by 8 AAC 95.030(e)(2); and l. the maximum monthly exemption for cash and other liquid assets set out in AS 09.38.050(b), as implemented by 8 AAC 95.030(e)(2).
