
NOTICE OF INTENT TO BEGIN INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT PLAN ACTIVITY In accordance with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Integrated Pest Management plan, Anchorage Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area members Anchorage Soil and Water Conservation District and Alien Species Control LLC intend to use herbicide as a maintenance tool to control the invasive plants spotted knapweed (Centaurea stoebe), creeping thistle (Cirsium arvense), bull thistle (Cirsium vulgare), bird vetch (Vicia cracca), reed canarygrass (Phalaris arundinacea), white sweet clover (Melilotus albus), orange hawkweed (Hieracium aurantiacum), meadow hawkweed (Hieracium caespitosum), European bird cherry (Prunus padus), common chokecherry (Prunus virginiana), oxeye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare), and crownvetch (Securigera varia). Highly targeted treatments may occur along the Portage Highway (MP 0-3, 4-6); Whittier tunnel entrance; Whittier Campground; Seward Highway including frontage roads (MP 75-126); Rabbit Cr Rd; Upper Huffman Rd; Lake Hood slip accesses; International Airport Rd from Postmark Dr to Homer Dr; Aviation Ave; Minnesota Dr from Tudor Rd to Seward Hwy; Minnesota Drive between Hillcrest Dr and 15th Ave; Glenn Highway (MP 0-5); Raspberry/Dowling Rd from Kincaid Park to Lake Otis Pkwy; Sand Lake Rd from Dimond Blvd to Raspberry Rd; C St from Potter Dr to Minnesota Dr; 100th Ave from Victor Rd to King St; Old Seward Hwy from 100th Ave to Potter Valley Rd; Abbott Rd from Seward Hwy to Elmore Rd; Girdwood Airport; Clarks Rd; and Eklutna Lake Rd. Garlon 4 Ultra (EPA No. 62719-527), Milestone (EPA No. 62719-519), Roundup Custom (EPA No. 524-343), or Transline (EPA No. 62719-259) will be applied by certified applicators using hand-held or backpack sprayers, sponge applicators, or via boom. Specific locations within these areas will be identified and treated following notice to Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. Locations will be posted with appropriate signage. Treatments will occur between May 15 and October 31, 2026. Not all areas will be treated this year. Some locations may require up to 2 spot applications.
