NOTICE OF DECISION ON REQUEST FOR DETERMINATION OF WHETHER A CERTIFICATE OF NEED IS REQUIRED THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH In accordance with 7 AAC 07.031, the Department of Health (Department) has determined that a Certificate of Need (CON) is required for the health care project or activity described below: Project/Activity: Laboratory Relocation and Expansion Applicant's Name: PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center Project/Activity Service Area: Ketchikan Estimated Cost of Project/Activity: $6,313,526 Summary of Decision: PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center (PHKMC) plans to relocate and expand its laboratory services within its existing hospital facility. PHKMC is not constructing a new facility, increasing its bed capacity, or adding any new categories of health services. However, it is expanding existing lab services; relocating them to a larger, newly constructed space; and updating its current lab service operations. Based on the information provided in the Request for Determination, the Department finds that the proposed project constitutes an alteration of a health care facility subject to CON, an estimated project cost that exceeds the $1.5 million threshold, and involves more than routine maintenance. As such, a CON is required for the project to proceed. A copy of this decision may be obtained by visiting the CON Activities page located at: https://certofneed.health.alaska.gov/ A person who requested a determination under 7 AAC 07.031 may seek reconsideration of the determination by submitting a written Request for Reconsideration to the Department. A Request for Reconsideration must be postmarked no later than thirty days from the date of this notice and be made in conformance with 7 AAC 07.033. A decision under 7 AAC 07.033 constitutes the final administrative decision of the department.
