Meeting of the Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development October 8-9, 2025 The Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development will hold a regular quarterly board meeting and a business meeting virtually October 8 and October 9, 2025. Public participation for the meeting will be through the digital platform Zoom. The quarterly board meeting will begin on October 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., and the work session and business meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. on October 9, 2025. Oral comment is limited to three minutes per person and five minutes per group. The Board may adjust the agenda as needed. This includes extending the oral hearing to accommodate individuals present at the start of the public testimony who have not yet had an opportunity to speak or closing the public comment period early and proceeding to the next agenda item if testimony concludes before the time period. The purpose of the meeting is to conduct professional development, hold a work session, convene a business meeting, and receive public comment. During the work session, the Board will review the State Board's Strategic Plan and discuss Administrative Orders 359 and 360, as well as receive legislative and budget updates. Additional topics include the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Master of Science in School Psychology Program, a presentation on Conditional Accreditation Approval, and a review of the Special Education (SPED) regulation related to vision impairment. The Board will also consider proposed regulations concerning local contribution requirements and early education program standards. The business meeting will include a presentation on Artificial Intelligence, the SPED vision impairment regulation, and consideration of the proposed regulations on local contribution and early education program standards, UAA Master of Science in School Psychology Program, action on the Conditional Accreditation Approval, and approval of appointments for the Superintendent of Mt. Edgecumbe High School and the Project Coordinator for the Office of Education Advocacy. The Commissioner will provide a report, and the Board will consider the Consent Agenda, which includes approval of the State Board of Education meeting minutes from July 1, 2025. The board may amend its published agenda. Agenda times are estimates only, and the board may consider agenda items out of order without amending its agenda.
